Warm Greetings !
PETROTECH is the flagship event of the Indian hydrocarbon industry that is organized biennially since 1995 under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. It is one of the largest events of its kind in this part of the world, attracting over 4000 delegates and hosts industry-relevant deliberations in addition to showcasing cutting-edge technologies in its exhibition.
The theme for this PETROTECH – 2014 is ‘Vision 2030: Emerging Global Energy Basket – Challenges & Opportunities’
. This is relevant and contemporary as the energy scene is changing radically and rapidly on account of a host of factors, including development of break – out technology, that has enabled monetizing new categories of hydrocarbon reserves that were hitherto not commercially viable. Energy importers are poised to emerge as exporters, while idling domestic reserves of fossil fuels across geographies are being revisited as appropriate technology has now become available.
Policy-makers have to take decisions today that will impact the energy scene in the future. The Plenary Track of PETROTECH – 2014 is designed to focus on the changing energy landscape and it will be a thought-provoking exercise to listen to global hydrocarbon experts and energy gurus explore this theme thread-bare over three days of interactive exchanges.
The connect between economic growth and energy is well established and as India registers sustained growth rates year on year that are among the fastest globally, its voracious appetite for energy will soar and will have to be addressed expeditiously. We look forward to tangible and implementable solutions emerging from this conference to guide policy makers toward enhancing energy security for this Nation.
An attendant issue that is become emergent with each passing day is climate – change mitigation. Sustainability challenges figure high on our agenda as we reshape the energy the energy basket and we are sanguine that guidance on managing energy security issues through sustainable work practices and climate – friendly technology will emerge.
Apart from the impressive front-end portfolio of the Conference and the Exhibition, there are vast networking opportunities at the back-end. Platforms like PETROTECH are vital to catalyze bilateral and multilateral agreements, especially at a juncture where cooperation is crucial for crafting a win-win solution. I have invited my colleagues from other countries who face similar energy dilemmas and challenges to share their experiences and perspectives with delegates and it will be interesting to hear them at PETROTECH – 2014’s Ministerial Track.
We intend to deliver a conference that offers holistic solutions and a rewarding experience to participants. I look forward to welcoming you to PETROTECH – 2014 from Jan 12 – 15, 2014.
Dr. M. Veerappa Moily
Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas
